Poland-Slovakia Border Recording: “Abyss” Sparks Outrage

by Archynetys News Desk

“Nothing will say more about Slovakia than the Polish-Slovak border crossing” – reads the entry on Slovak Instagram, which received 11,000 likes. likes and 483 comments.

The video went viral in Slovakia. Its author is journalist Ludmiła Kolesarowa, who, returning from Poland through the border crossing in Jurgów, shows how different our countries are. He does this in a video of about 500 meters of shared road.

On the Polish side of the border, it is even, straight and has freshly painted stripes on the asphalt. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but Slovaks consider it a “civilizational abyss” because the road on the Slovak side is full of holes, patches and potholes.

The Polish part of the road to the border crossing has been renovated at least three times in the last 10 years. On the Slovak side, the last renovation took place last year. It involved making successive patches.

“Why do we settle for something so lousy when we could be average without any effort and literally above average with a little bit of effort?” Lyudmila Kolesarova asks in the caption to the film.

The Polish-Slovak crossing in Jurgów appears several times. Just like the admiration of Slovaks for Poland and a certain regret of the inhabitants of this proud country about the opportunities that they may have missed. Slovaks believe that in Poland there are better houses, better roads, better airports and even… hairdressers.

— We take trips to Poland. There is a man in a neighboring village who has a bus for rent. Once or twice a month we meet to complete it – explains the organizer of “charters to Poland”, 70-year-old Weronika, a resident of a village on the Polish-Slovak border.
