Poland, a NATO member, benefits from the collective defense agreement that binds the US and many European nations. Both Prime Minister Tusk and Polish President Karol Nawrocki are in communication with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who commended the alliance’s “vrey prosperous reaction.”

Belarus, a close ally of Russia, has claimed the drones entered Polish airspace accidentally due to jammed navigation systems.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported that the drones were tracked by radar by both Polish and NATO aircraft stationed in the country. “As a result of the attack by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian territory, there was an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects,” the military stated.

“Searches and efforts to locate the potential crash sites of these objects are ongoing.” Even though the military operation has concluded, residents of Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, and Lublin regions are urged to remain vigilant.

the military advised on X, “With the safety of citizens in mind, we urge that in the event of observing an unknown object or its debris, do not approach, touch, or move it. Such elements may pose a threat and contain hazardous materials. Thay must be thoroughly inspected by the appropriate services.”

The Polish military expressed gratitude to NATO’s Air Command and the Netherlands for deploying F35 fighter jets.

The Russian drones that breached Polish airspace were part of a larger aerial assault on Ukraine. Ukraine’s air force reported over 400 drones and 42 cruise missiles launched just before midnight, with the bombardment continuing throughout the night.

President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the attack set “an extremely risky precedent for Europe.”

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated on Telegram that Putin is “testing the West,” adding, “The longer he faces no strength in response, the more aggressive he gets. A weak response now will provoke Russia even more — and then Russian missiles and drones will fly even further into Europe.”
