Autumn is traditionally the time of the “pictures”, and this year the Music and Art Festival “Pictures” will delight visitors for the 36th time. The festival program will be opened with the exhibition “Dotto!”, Which will be on view on the second floor of the Shopping Center “Spice” from October 8 to November 8.
On November 17, the exhibition will also be on view at the closing concert of the VEF Culture Palace in the lobby of “Bilju”.
Arvīds Endziņš, a metal artist and an associate professor at the Latvian Academy of Arts, says on the theme of the exhibition: “A lot begins with a point in life and ends with a point, which is usually the beginning of something new. The point is the basic element, like fire, water and air. The contact point, the breakthrough, the highest point, the destination and the multipoint … The “picture” family is also the dots that breaks this time when breaking the hourglass. “
The exhibition is attended by musicians, artists, as well as children of musicians and other creative personalities. Among the participants are Raimonds Bartaševics, Sandra Bula, Robert Jakubovsky, Māra Kalniņa, Sven Linga, Jolanta Mateusa, Horen Stalbe, Visvaldis Asaris, Ināra Garklava, Inese Mailīte, Arvids Plokšta, Indra Puķe, Maija Rezenberg and many others.
The exhibition was created at the “Bilge” summer camp in Jumurda Manor.
There will be six concerts during the festival:
October 23 at 19.00 – Blues concert at the Daile Music House
November 1 at 13.00 – Concert for children at VEF Culture Palace
November 1 at 19.00 – Acoustic Concert
November 2 at 17.00 – Concert of “picture” musicians and their children
November 6 at 19.00 – Concert of Singers
November 17 at 17.00 – Closing Concert of “Pictures”

For the festival “Pictures”
Since 1985, the music and art festival “Pictures” has been united by Latvian musicians of various genres – from Roka and Folk to jazz – introduces new collaborations and promotes creativity in visual art. Over the years, “pictures” have become a platform where musicians and other professions – artists, architects, journalists, actors and photographers – collaborate on unique projects.
Arts exhibitions are also traditionally held during the festival. Since 1995, they have been themed – musicians have painted chairs, suitcases, umbrellas, shoes, bottles and other everyday items, giving them a new, creative meaning.
Since 1990, “Bilge” summer camps have been taking place, where professional artists have been teaching musicians different techniques and helping to develop creative skills. The works created at the camp are later exhibited in the autumn – during the festival.
“Pictures” is the oldest music and art festival in Latvia. The first took place in 1985 at the Student Club of Riga Polytechnic Institute and the Anglican Church. Last year, the festival celebrated its 35th anniversary, but this year it has received the Latvian Event Forum Excellence Award for Contribution to the Music and Event Industry. Tija Auziņa, organizer of “Bilži”, has also won the Golden Microphone 2025 for his lifelong contribution to the development of Latvian music.
