Pedro pascal to Narrate New Planetarium Show Exploring the Oort Cloud
The American Museum of Natural History unveils “Encounters on the Milky Way,” an immersive experience narrated by the acclaimed actor.
The New York Planetarium is set to premiere a new show featuring the voice of Pedro Pascal. The show delves into the mysteries of the Oort cloud,a structure at the edge of the solar system, with a spiral shape that was unexpectedly revealed during the show’s production.
This announcement was made during a press event held by the american Museum of Natural History. The immersive experience Encounters on the Milky Way, an educational documentary narrated in English by the Chilean actor, will debut on June 9.
Jackie Faherty, the show’s commissioner and the Museum’s Chief of the Department of astrophysics, emphasized the meaning of the ‘map’ of the universe created by the European Space Agency’s Gaia telescope in 2018. She noted that the “visualization” of this data has already yielded scientific breakthroughs.
“We were sitting here under the dome, looking at the data (…) and playing with the Oort cloud. We are moving away from it and the spiral appears, a way out of our solar system,” Faherty explained, referring to the “finding” that has been published in the Astrophysical Journal.
Faherty, who calls the museum the “pixar of science,” highlighted that Gaia’s map encompasses 1.7 billion stars. She added that the show “extracts stories” from this cartography and hopes the public will “want to be a scientist,” especially the thousands of schoolchildren who visit the museum daily.
Carter Emmart, the Museum’s Astrovisualization Director and director of Encounters on the Milky Way and seven previous productions, emphasized the Huge potential of artificial intelligence to further explore the Cosmos, whose vastness seems to expand with each technological advancement.
“In 1920 we thought that perhaps the entire universe was the Milky Way,”
“In 1920 we thought that perhaps the entire universe was the Milky Way,” he added, noting that the “computational capacity” to “analyze the data, plan the observations, design the instrumentation and visualize” the data is awe-inspiring.
During the 25-minute documentary, the star of The Mandalorian and narcos will Explain the wonders of the universe and raise issues about the possibility of life-supporting elements traveling between cosmic locations.
Pascal recently shared a photo on social media showing him Pdaring a partner in the recording room, inviting viewers to see his new narration: “come for the narrative and stay to become smarter.”
