SNOWSTORM HITS PA: Heavy snow piles up fast across Susquehanna Valley | NEW total map

MORNING, 915 ON THIS ALERT DAY, HERE’S SOME NEW SNOWFALL REPORTS. SO MANY FOLKS ARE GOING OUT AND MEASURING, SO WE APPRECIATE YOUR TOTALS. SOUTH LEBANON NEAR THE VA COMING IN WITH FOUR INCHES OF SNOW. WEST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP FOUR IN FELTON. YORK COUNTY 3.6. MILLERSVILLE 3.3 AND STONY BROOK IN YORK COUNTY REPORTING IN AT THREE INCHES. AND MORE TO COME ON THOSE SNOW TOTALS. MARY ELLEN’S TAKING THEM AS FAST AS THEY COME IN RIGHT NOW ON OUR STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK, YOU CAN SEE WE HAVE THE BRIGHT WHITES ENTERING THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. THAT’S THE HEAVIER SNOW RATE WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT. SO SNOW FALLING AT ABOUT ONE INCH PER HOUR ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA. VISIBILITY HAS DROPPED AND THAT SNOW IS PILING UP. NOW AS THE HEAVIEST COMES TOWARD US. RIGHT NOW, ALL SNOW, THAT MODERATE SNOW IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, ADAMS COUNTY, WE’RE STILL SEEING SNOW IN YORK AND LANCASTER COUNTY. BUT LATER TODAY WE’LL START TO SEE SOME SLEET CREEPING NORTH, ESPECIALLY AFTER LUNCHTIME. SOLID SNOW HERE THROUGH MIFFLIN, JUNIATA, PERRY, CUMBERLAND COUNTIES, DAUPHIN COUNTY AND LEBANON COUNTY. SO EVERYBODY IS ABOUT SEEING THE SAME CONDITIONS. OUR SNOW MAP IN THE PURPLE ZONE, THAT’S 12 TO 18IN OF SNOW IN THE BLUE. IT’S 8 TO 12 BECAUSE WE DO EXPECT THAT TRANSITION TO SLEET LATER TODAY. AND YOU’RE SAYING HOW IN THE WORLD CAN IT SLEET WHEN IT’S SO COLD OUTSIDE. WELL LOW PRESSURE IS GOING TO BE COMING IN OFF THE COAST OF DELMARVA. AND THAT’S GOING TO THROW A WARM LAYER OUR WAY JUST ABOVE OUR HEADS IN THE ATMOSPHERE. SO THE SNOW FLAKE WILL MELT AND THEN REFREEZE, CAUSING SLEET IN THE LOWER SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. SO HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR PRECIPITATION TYPES FOR THE MORNING. WE ARE SOLID SNOW, SNOW AND SOME SLEET THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. SAME FOR THE EVENING. BUT ALL OF THAT PRECIPITATION TAPERS LATE EVENIN
