Larian Studios, the developer of “Baldur’s Gate 3“, recently caused a heated discussion at The Game Awards with its controversial trailer for the new game in the “Divinity” series. According to reports from foreign media GameSpot, in order to introduce new players to this series, Larian Studio has ported the critically acclaimed previous game “Divinity: Original Sin II” (Divinity: Original Sin II) to the latest platforms such as PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the rumored Switch 2 on December 15, and provided free upgrade options.
Players who already own the Switch, PS4 or Xbox One version will be able to download the upgrade pack for free. The only exception is Japan, where the upgrade requires a nominal fee of 100 yen (approximately NT$20). For new players, the recommended price of the game is US$50 (approximately NT$1,550), but there are currently special offers on various platforms: the Xbox version is US$17.50 (approximately NT$543), the Switch version is US$25 (approximately NT$775), and the PlayStation version is US$15 (approximately NT$465).
Larian Studios clarified that the new version launched this time is not a remake or remaster, but “a way for players to experience classic DOS:2 on contemporary consoles.” However, the development team did not provide any details about performance improvements or updates on the new hardware.
“Divinity: Original Sin 2” was originally released in 2016 and is the sequel to 2014’s “Divinity: Original Sin”. This turn-based tactical RPG received extremely high reviews that year, not only scoring a perfect 10/10 on GameSpot, but also being praised by global media and players.
As for the new game recently announced at The Game Awards, Larian Studios said it will “deliver a brand new story” but will also retain “some continuity and characters” from the series’ past. The CGI trailer for the game, which was widely discussed for its explicit graphics (including sex scenes and human sacrifice), was also a game previously previewed by host Geoff Keighley Mystery Monolith. There’s no release date yet for the new game, but Larian has stated that it will be the studio’s largest ever.
