by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

The movie “One Battle After Another” dominated the Oscars yesterday, Sunday, after winning six awards. One of them is in the main category for Best Picture, beating “Sinners,” at the end of one of the most competitive awards seasons in recent years.

According to Agence France-Presse, director Paul Thomas Anderson himself won three Oscars, for the first time in his career, for his exciting political film that deals with sensitive issues such as campaigns against illegal immigration and the movement calling for white supremacy.

“You go to great lengths to win one of these awards,” Anderson said, amid laughter from the audience, as he received the award for best director.

As he stated, after receiving the award for Best Adapted Screenplay: “I wrote this film for my children, to apologize to them for the chaos we have created in this world that we hand to them,” but “while also encouraging them to be the generation that we hope will bring us some common sense and integrity.”

The movie “One Battle After Another” tells the story of a former revolutionary, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who is forced to resume his activism, when he and his daughter are targeted by a corrupt military officer, played by Sean Penn, who won the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, which drags him into a dangerous confrontation that develops into a larger political conflict.

The film also won the award for best editing and the opening award of the evening for best ensemble cast.

Anderson is considered one of the most important directors of contemporary American cinema, but he had not won an Oscar before Sunday, despite being nominated 11 times previously for films that received great acclaim, including “There Will Be Blood” and “Boogie Nights.”

Four awards for “Sinners”

“Sinners” by director Ryan Coogler, a fantasy film about vampires that offers a reflection on America’s difficult racist history, entered the Oscars evening with a record 16 nominations.

But the film won four awards, including Best Original Screenplay for Coogler and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, who embodied the characters of twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who were searching for wealth in the American South, during the era of racial discrimination.

Jordan told reporters behind the scenes that he wrote detailed notes to explain the background of the two characters. In order to highlight the subtle differences between them.

Other awards include the Best Original Score Award for Ludwig Göransson, and the Best Cinematography Award for Autumn Dorald Arkapaw, making her the first woman to win this award.

Kugler described the writing award he received as a “great honor,” attributing, in statements to journalists, the credit for his success to his creative writing teacher.

The films “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners” were produced by “Warner Brothers” studios, which formed the focus of a fierce competition between the “Paramount” and “Netflix” groups to acquire them.

“Warner Brothers” won 12 Oscars, out of 24 presented on Sunday.

In an award that was widely expected that evening, Jessie Buckley won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Agnes, William Shakespeare’s wife who is grief-stricken by the loss of their son, in the movie “Hamnet.”

Buckley told reporters backstage that winning the award on Mother’s Day in her native Ireland gave her a “strange” feeling.

“I feel it is a pleasure to explore motherhood through this wonderful mother, Agnes,” she said.

Amy Madigan won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role as a mentally disturbed witch in the horror film “Weebs.”

The K-Pop movie Demon Hunters also won the award for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song for the song “Golden.”

Touching words

Veteran broadcaster Conan O’Brien added an atmosphere of fun and humor to the ceremony with his distinctive style, full of biting sarcasm.

This included harsh criticism of allies of President Donald Trump, who strongly objected to the selection of Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny as the star of the Super Bowl halftime show.

Addressing major Hollywood stars, he said: “I would like to warn you that tonight may take a political turn.”

The evening witnessed a long segment devoted to eulogizing the deceased in Hollywood, including a moving tribute to director Rob Reiner, who was stabbed to death in his home last December, and to actor Robert Redford, and it also included a rare theatrical performance by Barbara Streisand.

Billy Crystal, who Reiner chose to co-star with Meg Ryan in the movie “One Harry Met Sally” in the late 1980s, said that Reiner’s influence on Hollywood was enormous.

He added: “Rob’s films will remain eternal; Because it was about what makes us laugh and cry, and what we aspire to; That is, what is much better in his view, kinder, more fun and more humane.

Streisand, 83, who co-starred with Redford in the classic 1973 film “The Way We Are,” said of the late actor that she loved a man who affectionately called her “Babs.”

She added: “He was a brilliant actor and mastered his roles. “Bob had a strong personality, both on screen and in his personal life,” and “I described him as a cultured cowboy who made his own way. “I miss him now more than ever.”
