by Archynetys News Desk

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha Police Department is investigating a robbery at a convenience store late Wednesday.

The robbery happened at the NP Mart near Northwest Radial Highway and 52nd Street, in the Benson area, shortly before 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.

An employee told OPD officers at the scene that the suspect approached him, pointed a pistol at him, and demanded money.

After getting the money, the suspect ran south, a release states. Officers searched the area but could not find the suspect.

Witnesses described the suspect as a man in all black clothing.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

A couple of hours later, police say there was an attempted robbery at the Express Mart near Midtown.

OPD was called to the business at 40th and Hamilton streets just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday for a report of an armed person.

When officers spoke with an employee, they found a man pointed a handgun at him and demanded money. The man then left the store without cash.

The suspect was described to police as a black man in his early 20s wearing all black.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, OPD says. The department has not yet confirmed if they are connected.

“Investigators acknowledged the suspect description is similar, but they still need to review video from one of the incidents to confirm if they are connected.”
