The next World Rally Championship (WRC) season will pass without Ota Tanaka, who, as you already know, has decided to take a break from rallying. Earlier, several competitors expressed that this is not good news for the sport. Sebastien Ogier was among them.

“I am not happy about this news. Everyone knows we have a good relationship. I like Ott and he has always been a very serious competitor – probably the toughest I have had to fight in recent years. Our fight against each other was always very exciting. Hope to see it again someday. For now, as far as I understand, he will take a break, which is not good news, but sometimes it happens – let’s hope he will be back soon,” said some time ago Sebastien Ogier.

Towards the end of 2025, Ogier once again publicly expressed his thoughts on Ott’s decision.

“Before the end of 2025, I felt the need to share some thoughts about a piece of news that I didn’t comment on when it was announced, but which really touched me.” writes Sebastien Ogier.

“As you all know, Ott Tanak will not be competing in the WRC next year, and I think we can all agree that this is a great loss for our sport. On a personal level, I will truly miss him. As a competitor, he was probably the one who challenged me the most, who pushed me to work even harder and push myself closer to my limits than any other pilot in my career. But even more, I will miss him as a friend.”

”Ott, you are a great family man! A person I truly respect. I hope you enjoy every moment with your loved ones and embrace this new phase of life with the same strength and integrity you have always shown. Life has its surprises, and who knows what other paths may cross.”

“Maybe it’s goodbye, but maybe it’s just – see you soon.” concludes the eight-time WRC champion.
