NY Democrats & Terrorism: Response to Trump’s Budget Cuts

by Archynetys Economy Desk

A group of Democrats from the New York House of Representatives states
that the annual financing proposal of President Donald Trump, if
promulgated, could leave the big cities vulnerable to mass terrorist
attacks.

“We write to express our most serious concern about the existential threat
than the budget proposed by the Trump administration represents for the
national security of New York City,” the Democrats wrote.

Trump’s budget, of approved, would leave the largest city in
the United States unfortunately off guard to prevent and respond to a
second 11-S.

The new and bold accusation arises while left -wing legislators continue to
criticize republican efforts to drastically cut the federal expenditure.
Meanwhile, the national debt approaches 37 billion dollars.

The representatives Ritchie Torres, on the left, and Dan Goldman, on the
right, were two of the New York Democrats who criticized President
Trump’s budget proposal.

The letter was signed by Democratic representatives of New York Ritchie
Torres, Yvette Clarke, Gregory Meeks, Dan Goldman and Jerry Nadler.

They argued that the “draconian cuts” to national security subsidies
“would virtually dismantle the system.” FDNY “The police capacity to manage
emergencies would reduce the anti -terrorism apparatus of the New York
Police Department after September 11 to a shadow of what it was.”

The letter is aimed at the main Republicans and Democrats of the
Assignments committee of the House of Representatives, which has already
begun to work in the federal budget of the next fiscal year on time for
the deadline of September 30.

The White House has published a “limited” budget proposal for fiscal year
2026, which, if approved, would fulfill the promise of Republicans to cut
the government spending that, according to them, has gone out of control.

the proposal would cut 163 billion dollars in discretionary expenses of the
government not related to defence, that is, the federal financing that
Congress controls every year, rather of mandatory financing, which largely
is composed of government security network programs that are modified
through a separate process called budget conciliation.

The budget analysis carried out by the International Association of Fire
Chiefs, a non -profit association, indicated that the State Security
Subsidies Programme (SHSGP) would be reduced from $ 468 million to $ 351
million, and the safety Initiative of Urban Areas (UASI) would be reduced
from $ 553.5 million to $ 415.5 million, two programs highlighted by new
york.

The letter of legislators said that New York City could see 45 million
dollars in national security subsidies under Trump’s budget.

Representative Jerold Nadler also signed the letter.

“Trump’s budget is an act of national self -taught,” they said. “Only in
the first half of 2025, we have witnessed seven terrorist conspiracies,
approximately one per month. Twenty-four years after the 11-S attacks, the
threat of terrorism remains as real as ever.”

the Democrats pointed out that New York Police and Fire Departments
“routinely provide reinforcements and technical assistance to jurisdictions
from all over the United States.”

“National Security subsidies for New York City allow a national mutual aid
network among the states,” they argued.

The White House Budget proposal for fiscal year 26 is traditionally only an
initial plan that undergoes changes as legislators negotiate what is
feasible.

However, with a republican triumph in Washington, Republicans will probably
be under additional pressure to present a vision as close as possible to
Trump’s.

Separately, GOP legislators are also working on the broad fiscal and
immigration legislation that Trump called his “great and beautiful reform.”
Bill, with the aim of getting that Bill to Trump’s desk before July 4.

When the white House was contacted to comment on the letter, he referred to

Department of national Security (DHS).

To DHS the spokesman said: “He affirms that DHS” to reduce the focus on
terrorism prevention is unequivocally false. ”

“The accusations of weakening of these programs lack the foundation. DHS is
improving the intelligence and protection of infrastructure to maintain
safe cities. We remain fully committed to the prevention of another 11-S
with solid and specific investments. Dhs the spokesman said.

But the representative Rosa Delauro, Democrat of Connecticut, the most rank
Democrat in the Assignments Committee of the House of Representatives,
said: Fox News Digital: “We still do not have the full request for budget
by 2026 of President Trump, but for what we have seen, the cuts proposed
throughout the federal government threaten our national security.”
