The results of the Syuriyah Consultation Meeting of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board with Mustasyar PBNU decided that the 35th Congress must be held as soon as possible by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar and General Chairperson of PBNU KH Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya. The meeting took place at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, Kediri, East Java, on Thursday (25/12/2025).
“Determining that the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress be held as soon as possible by Rais ‘Aam PBNU (KH Miftachul Akhyar) and the General Chairperson of PBNU (KH Yahya Cholil Staquf), by involving Mustasyar PBNU, elders, and Islamic boarding school administrators in determining the time, place and committee of the Congress,” wrote the decision as quoted. The decision also explains the chronology of the problem. It is written that since the internal problems at PBNU occurred which were triggered by the dismissal of Gus Yahya by Kiai Miftach through a forum known as the PBNU Syuriyah Meeting and the rejection of the decision, the developments that occurred actually showed an increasingly sharp and prolonged escalation of the conflict.
Then, the decision also explained that, as a form of moral responsibility and deep concern for the condition of NU, PBNU Mustasyar, elders and NU ulama had taken various deliberation initiatives.
“The deliberation was held at the Al-Falah Ploso Kediri Islamic Boarding School, Tebuireng Jombang Islamic Boarding School, and the culmination of the Kubro Deliberation at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, Kediri, on 1 Rajab 1447 AH to coincide with December 21 2025. 5 The Kubro Deliberation was attended by Regional Management and Branch Managers of Nahdlatul Ulama throughout Indonesia,” wrote the decision,
It is known that the meeting had been scheduled by Kiai Miftach as a Syuriyah Consultation Meeting forum with Mustasyar via letter number 4829/PB.02/AI01.02/99/12/2025 which was published on Wednesday (24/2025). Meanwhile, Gus Yahya’s presence was based on an official invitation signed by the Head of the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, KH M. Anwar Manshur number 064/A/AZM/P2L/XII/2025.
In the video after the meeting which was circulated for around 1.09 minutes, Gus Yahya, with a sad expression, immediately kissed her hand and kissed her right and left cheeks. Kiai Miftach welcomed us warmly and with a smile.
Furthermore, Gus Yahya also kissed the hands and cheeks of Mustasyar PBNU KH Ma’ruf Amin. In a sitting position, Gus Yahya continued to kiss the hands and cheeks of Mustasyar PBNU and Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School Caretaker KH M. Anwar Manshur.
While holding back his emotion, Gus Yahya continued to kiss the hands and cheeks of Mustasyar PBNU KH Nurul Huda Djazuli. Then the two of them hugged each other for about 5 seconds. Finally, Gus Yahya also greeted Rais Syuriyah PBNU and the Caretaker of the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, KH Abdullah Kafabih Mahrus.
Present at this meeting were PBNU Mustasyar ranks, including KH Ma’ruf Amin, KH Anwar Manshur, KH Nurul Huda Djazuli, and Prof Machasin. Then from the ranks of Rais Syuriyah, among others, KH Abdullah Kafabihi Mahrus, KH Idris Hamid, KH Mu’adz Thohir, KH Muhibbul Aman Aly, KH Imam Buchori Cholil, KH Muhammad Cholil Nafis, H Mohammad Nuh.
From the ranks of the Katib Syuriyah, among others, KH. Athoillah Sholahuddin Anwar, KH Ahmad Nadhif Abdul Mujib, KH Afifuddin Dimyathi (Gus Awis), KH Abdul Latif Malik, Gus Aunullah A’lal Habib, H Tajul Mafakhir, H Abdul Moqsith Ghazali, and H Sarmidi Husna.
