North Korea fired a ballistic missile off its east coast on Sunday, according to South Korea’s defense staff.
– North Korea has fired an unidentified ballistic missile towards the East Sea, it says in a statement, referring to an area of the sea that is also known as the Sea of Japan.
The missile is believed to have already fallen, according to Japan’s Defense Ministry.
The last time Pyongyang tested its ballistic missile was in November.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has called for more than doubling production capacity for tactical guided weapons during a recent visit to a munitions factory, according to North Korean state media.
In recent weeks, Kim has made a number of visits to factories that build weapons, as well as to a nuclear-powered submarine, and has overseen several missile tests.
