Nikon introduces the ZR, a collaboration with RED, bringing enhanced video capabilities too its camera lineup.
Nikon has officially revealed the ZR, marking its first co-branded venture with RED, the renowned cinema camera company acquired in April of last year.
the ZR enhances Nikon’s existing strengths, including its adaptable Z-mount, internal RAW video recording, and acclaimed color science, catering specifically to video shooters. A key feature is its ability to record RED R3D NE files, which allow users to adjust settings like ISO and white balance during post-production, offering greater flexibility. This capability, previously a major draw for RED cameras, simplifies the process of color-matching footage with existing RED content.
Based on Nikon’s Z6III from last year, the ZR features a similar partially-stacked 24mp full-frame sensor, 7.5 stops of IBIS, and 15+ stops of dynamic range. Its body is slimmed down to 133×80.5×48.7mm and includes video-centric additions like 32-bit audio output via the hotshoe and mic jack, along with a large 4-inch articulating touchscreen boasting 1000 nits of brightness.
The Nikon ZR will be available for $2,199 on October 20th.
The ZR takes what Nikon has already been doing well…and turns it up to 11 for video shooters.
