From May 5 to 8, the Neonatal Maternal Hospital joins the World Hypiene Week, within the framework of the campaign that promotes the World Health Organization (WHO) for 17 years. Under the slogan “Gloves, sometimes. Hand hygiene, always”, we reaffirm our commitment to infections and patient safety.
Why is it so important?
Hand hygiene is a fundamental tool to prevent infections associated with health care (IACS). This practice, simple but crucial, is part of the quality indicators that must be met and reported in high complexity hospitals throughout the country.
In our institution, this commitment is not new. Since 2005, when CEDECEM was incorporated in the former Perinatology Unit of the Madariaga Hospital, we constantly work on the promotion and control of this practice. Currently, we actively participate in the national studies of the HIVDA program of the National Institute of Epidemiology, which allows us to relieve twice a year the level of adhesion to hand hygiene, comparing ourselves with other institutions in Argentina.
During the week of May 5 to 8, various activities aimed at professionals, institution personnel and also the community will be carried out.
The week will begin with an event, on Monday, at the Hall of the Hospital with the presence of authorities, activities aimed at the community that attends the hospital will be developed.
On Tuesday there will be a hand hygiene workshop for professionals and staff of the institution. Wednesday will be a day of tours of the institution to remember the correct hand hygiene technique, and the appropriate indications and use of gloves. And on Thursday, the Athenaeum “Gloves, sometimes. Hand hygiene, always” will be developed.
