NC Wildfires: 85 Acres Burn in Western Region

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – North Carolina officials have reported two fires in the western region of the state.

Buncombe County

Officials said there is a 15-acre brush fire on Blue Ridge Parkway. As of around 5 p.m. on Sunday, the fire was reported as 0% contained.

Buncombe County officials said all visitors must leave the Parkway between Rattlesnake Lodge and Ox Creek while crews respond to the brush fire.

Reems Creek Fire Department reported they had about eighty firefighters on the ground fighting the fire. Crews are also working from the air.

Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, the fire department said the Ox Creek fire is 40% contained.

Haywood County

Officials reported that both sides of Panther Creek are currently closed due to a 70-acre fire near the 2800 block of Panther Creek. The public has been asked to avoid the area and refrain from outdoor burning while emergency crews fight the fire.

On Sunday night, officials reported the fire is about 50-70 acres and is 30% contained.
