The landscape is shifting ahead of the NBA Draft. What was once considered a near certainty – VJ Edgecombe joining the Charlotte Hornets – now appears less likely. For much of the draft process, analysts at ESPN had projected the Sixers to select Ace Bailey, a 6’8″ wing from Rutgers. However, due to concerns from unnamed teams regarding Bailey’s focus and preparation at the NBA draft combine, Givony now anticipates Edgecombe heading to philadelphia.

With Edgecombe potentially off the board, the latest mock draft from Givony and Woo has the Charlotte Hornets selecting Duke swingman Kon Knueppel with the fourth overall pick. they suggest that “‘Knueppel’s feel for the game, selfless style of play, strength and toughness should make him easy to play with, especially alongside the likes of LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, who he appears to complement quite well.'”

While some Hornets fans may not be entirely convinced,Knueppel could be a valuable addition to Charlotte. The 2025 NBA playoffs highlighted the importance of players who can contribute without dominating the ball, and, outside of Cooper Flagg, Knueppel may be the best fit for that role in this draft class.

Knueppel’s shooting is a major strength, but he offers more than just spot-up shooting. The former Blue Devil displayed a well-rounded offensive game, especially when he took on a larger role after Flagg’s ankle injury during the ACC Tournament.

He has the ability to initiate offense in short bursts,demonstrates skill around the basket,is an bright cutter,and while not an elite athlete,his strong build,basketball IQ,and competitiveness make him a capable defender.

Kon Knueppel has drawn comparisons to Desmond Bane, who was recently traded for a important package of draft picks and players due to his value to a playoff contender. If the Hornets draft Knueppel and he develops into a similar player,it might very well be one of the team’s best draft decisions.
