National University Hospital, 10 out of 11 hospitals in deficit Future deficit increasing due to conflict between lawmakers and government

Last year, 10 out of 11 national university hospitals were operating at a loss, and the management difficulties are expected to worsen this year due to the medical vacuum caused by the departure of medical residents.

Kyungpook National University Hospital was found to have suffered the largest medical profit deficit ever last year.

Investment in facilities in preparation for the COVID-19 pandemic is cited as the cause, but there are concerns within and outside the medical community that the deficit may increase further in the future due to the departure of residents who oppose this year’s medical school admission quota.

According to the 2023 management performance of national university hospitals posted on the public institution management information system ‘Alio’ on the 7th, 10 of the 11 national university hospitals nationwide, including Kyungpook National University Hospital, recorded a deficit in medical profits. Seoul National University Bundang Hospital is the only hospital that has made a profit.

The hospital that incurred the biggest loss last year was Chungnam National University Hospital.

A Saturn moon hides a vast ocean beneath its surface

After a ten-year suspense following the discovery of an anomaly in its rotation, proof has finally been made that Mimas, the smallest of Saturn’s eight main moons, harbors an ocean of water beneath its entire surface. Even more astonishing, this ocean would be less than 25 million years old, almost nothing, compared to the 4.5 billion years of our solar system. This surprising discovery is the result of a long work, but also of an intuition going against the main ideas accepted until now on the evolution of the Saturn system.

It was in 2010 that our team began to question the real nature of Mimas. With a radius of 200 km, the smallest of Saturn’s so-called main moons is easily recognizable by its surface covered in craters. Discovered in 1789 by the British astronomer William Herschel, it would be necessary to wait for the space age to obtain the first resolved images of this moon, and thus be able to discover its inert surface.

Study Mimas to understand the shape of Saturn’s rings

The link between Mimas and our initial work was not immediate, since it involved explaining the most remarkable structure of Saturn’s rings: the Cassini division.

New Material Developed to Solve Self-Driving Cars Color Blindness Issue

Self-driving cars cannot correctly detect if the car in front is dark in color. This is because the “Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR)” sensor, called the eyes of self-driving cars, cannot correctly detect black objects that absorb light. A national research group has developed a new material that will solve the black “color blindness” of self-driving cars.

Changmin Yoon, professor at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering of National Hanbat University, published the results of his research on developing a black plate-shaped material that can be recognized by LiDAR in the international academic journal ‘American Chemical Society (ACS) Applied Materials and Interfaces last month. The article received enough attention to be featured by ACS as an interesting research finding.

LiDAR sensors use near-infrared rays to recognize objects, but the recognition speed is slow for black or dark-colored subjects that absorb light. Looking at the monitor, you can see that the LiDAR sensor accurately recognizes white cars, but does not correctly recognize black cars./Hanbatdae

LIDAR fires a near-infrared laser at an object and measures the time it takes for the reflected wave to arrive to determine the distance. However, black objects absorb the light emitted by the LIDAR and the recognition speed decreases dramatically.

Launch of Starliner to ISS postponed at the last minute

The launch of American aerospace company Boeing’s Starliner space capsule was postponed early Tuesday morning less than two hours before its scheduled launch. A technical problem was the basis for that decision.

The Starliner would take two American astronauts from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to the International Space Station. They were already ready in the capsule.

However, an anomaly was discovered in the valve of the Atlas V rocket – which would launch the capsule into orbit around Earth. The manufacturer of the launch vehicle, the ULA group, announced this. The Starliner may be launched this week, but an exact date is not yet known.

Unleashing the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G: A Budget-Friendly Powerhouse with Galaxy S Style

Enhanced Camera Features of the Latest Smartphone

The camera⁣ setup of the latest smartphone model has seen some⁣ minor changes from the previous⁤ year. While the selfie camera now resides‌ in⁤ a punch-hole design instead of⁣ a teardrop shape,‌ it still captures 13 MP photos and records videos at a⁣ maximum⁢ of 4K and 30 frames per second. In comparison to the Galaxy⁢ A34, the‍ image quality remains⁢ consistent.⁣ The selfie‌ camera excels in portrait mode, producing attractive ‍bokeh effects and vibrant colors ⁤without appearing overly saturated.

Triple Rear Camera System

The rear triple camera system retains its 3-lens configuration with almost identical specifications. The main camera has been upgraded to capture 50 MP images, up from the previous 48 MP. The main camera features a f/1.8 aperture and utilizes 4-in-1 pixel binning to produce 12 MP photos. Additionally, there is an 8 MP ultra wide-angle camera (f/2.2) and a 5 MP macro camera (f/2.4).

Daylight and Night Photography

In well-lit conditions, the main camera captures vibrant and saturated shots, characteristic of Samsung devices. The high contrast levels enhance the vibrancy of the photos, although details may be lost in darker areas. During nighttime photography, the camera accurately reproduces colors compared to other mid-range smartphones.

BB.lv: The mystery of white dwarfs has been solved

Astronomers have solved the mystery of white dwarfs, which is that the surfaces of many of these objects are contaminated with heavy elements that would quickly sink to the core. About it reported in a paper published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The researchers simulated a white dwarf that received a “natal kick” during its formation, caused by asymmetric mass loss. This changes both the motion of the white dwarf itself and the dynamics of any surrounding material.

In 80 percent of the model runs, the scientists observed that the result was that the orbits of comets and asteroids between 30 and 240 astronomical units from the white dwarf became elongated and aligned. Moreover, 40 percent of subsequently absorbed bodies come from orbits in which they move retrograde, that is, in the opposite direction.

Even after a hundred million years, nearby asteroids still had elongated orbits and moved as a single unit, which had never been observed before. This leads to long-lasting accretion events and may explain why heavy elements are constantly found on the surface of white dwarfs.
