A 36-year-old man died from smoke inhalation after a fire in his apartment on Saturday morning. At around five in the morning, a resident informed the rescue workers of a fire on Friedrichshafener Strasse in Aubing. The responding fire department had to bring almost 30 residents of the seven-story building to safety.

In some cases, the rescuers used ladders to get people from the upper floors off their balconies. The entrance doors of several apartments from which there was no sign of life were broken down. But they were all empty. However, a man was rescued from an apartment on the ground floor, in whose kitchen the fire probably broke out. He had severe symptoms of poisoning and had to be resuscitated and taken to hospital. There he died from his injuries.

The police were at the scene of the fire with almost ten patrols and cordoned off the area around the burning apartment building. The deceased’s apartment was largely destroyed. Investigators are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. The facade of the house was also affected. However, the uninjured residents were able to return to their apartments. According to initial estimates, the material damage is around 100,000 to 200,000 euros.
