Mpox Case Confirmed in Ceará – 2026 Update

O Ceará confirmed the third case of Mpox in 2026. The information was recorded on the Integra SUS platform, this Friday (20). The main way of Disease transmission occurs through direct person-to-person contact (skin, secretions) and close and prolonged exposure with droplets and other respiratory secretions.

There is no information about the age or sex of the person diagnosed. In total for the year, the State has so far recorded:

  • 29 cases reported;
  • 3 confirmed cases;
  • 24 cases discarded;
  • 2 suspected cases.

On the 10th of this month, the first case was confirmed through the monitoring panel of the National Center for Epidemiological Intelligence and Genomic Surveillance.

About the first patient

As reported by Northeast Diary On March 10 of this year, the first registered patient of the disease was a 37-year-old white man. The panel also indicates that he has completed high school.

“This is a man who received adequate medical assistance and presented a favorable clinical evolution”, highlighted the state health agency.

How is Mpox transmitted?

The main form of transmission of Mpox occurs through direct person-to-person contact (skin, secretions) and close and prolonged exposure to droplets and other respiratory secretions.

It occurs mainly through direct person-to-person contact with the rashes and skin lesions, body fluids (such as pus, blood from lesions) of an infected person.

How is Mpox diagnosed?

Diagnosis is laboratory, through molecular testing or genetic sequencing, made by collecting material from skin lesions.

According to the Ministry of Health, the sample to be analyzed is collected, preferably, from the secretion of the lesions. When the lesions are dry, the crusts on the lesions are examined. The samples are sent to reference laboratories in Brazil.
