Italian authorities are currently investigating a mother and grandfather for allegedly subjecting a 14-year-old girl too severe and sustained physical and psychological abuse. Teh investigation, triggered by the girl’s disclosures to classmates and teachers, reveals a disturbing pattern of control and isolation.
Since the age of ten, the girl was allegedly compelled to wear a veil, forbidden from forming friendships, and denied educational opportunities. These restrictions, coupled with physical violence, paint a grim picture of a childhood stolen.
Systematic Abuse and Deprivation Unveiled
The carabinieri of Campagnola Emilia, under the direction of the Reggio Emilia prosecutor, have uncovered evidence suggesting a systematic campaign of abuse.The mother, allegedly incited by the grandfather, is accused of physically assaulting the girl, even using a broom handle. The teenager was reportedly burdened with excessive housework and stripped of her mobile phone to prevent her from seeking help.
Beyond physical abuse, the girl endured constant insults and rigid restrictions. She was allegedly barred from attending high school, developing friendships with males, watching television, wearing Western clothing, and participating in any sports. The investigation further suggests that the victim was repeatedly threatened with being permanently “reported” to Pakistan, an apparent attempt to sever her ties with her current social environment.
Since the age of 10, the use of the veil would have been imposed on it, forbidden to continue their studies and enroll in high schools, to have male friendships, to watch television, to wear western clothes and to practice any sporting activity.
Legal Intervention: Restraining Orders and Monitoring
Prompted by the Carabinieri’s findings and corroborating reports from the girl’s teachers, the Reggio Emilia prosecutor’s Office, led by Gaetano Paci, swiftly secured a restraining order against the mother and grandfather. The two Pakistani nationals, aged 38 and 70 respectively, who reside in a municipality in the lower Reggiana area, are now prohibited from approaching the victim.
Along with the no-contact order, both individuals are subject to electronic monitoring via ankle bracelets and are required to report daily to the judicial police. These measures aim to ensure the girl’s safety and prevent further harassment.
Fears of Forced Marriage: A Desperate Plea for help
The 14-year-old’s confidences to her peers and educators proved crucial in initiating the investigation. She revealed that she was frequently beaten at home and that her mother and grandfather intended to prevent her from continuing her education beyond the third grade. Disturbingly, the girl also expressed fears of being sent to Pakistan for a forced marriage or engagement.

Grandfather’s Views on Women’s freedom Under Scrutiny
Adding another layer to the case, investigators are examining a television interview in which the grandfather asserted that women should not be allowed to go out alone and that he forbade the women in his family from doing so.
