Monkeypox in New York: Symptoms & Most Dangerous Strain

by Archynetys Health Desk
Health officials in New York recorded the first case of infection with the Clade I strain of the monkeypox virus, making it the 12th case of this type in the United States since November 2024.

The infected person is currently subject to isolation.

Health officials confirmed that there was no evidence of infection spreading among the community, noting that the risk of general infection remained low.

The infected person recently traveled to Europe before returning to New York.

The destination he visited was not revealed, which is an area where the virus is not considered an endemic disease.

The “Clade I” strain is considered the most dangerous form of the virus, as it causes more severe symptoms and a higher death rate compared to the “Clade II” strain, which has been more widespread in the world since 2022.

Initial symptoms include fever, severe headache, muscle pain, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes, followed by the appearance of a characteristic rash that begins on the face and then spreads to the hands and feet. The skin lesions go through stages from flat spots to hard blisters before peeling. (Russia Today)
