The Columbus Crew emerged victorious with a 2-1 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps, thanks to a decisive goal by Diego Rossi in the 21st minute. This defeat marks the end of the Whitecaps’ impressive 11-game unbeaten streak.

Vancouver Whitecaps (10-2-5, 38 points) entered the match with a strong record of six wins and five draws since their last loss on March 22 against the Chicago Fire. Their away record now stands at 4-1-3.

The Columbus Crew (8-3-7, 31 points) snapped a six-game winless streak (0-2-4), securing their first victory as May 3 against Charlotte FC.

Ibrahim Aliyu put the Crew ahead early in the 2nd minute, followed by Jean-Claude Ngando’s equalizer for Vancouver in the 6th minute.

Vancouver’s goalkeeper, Yohei Takaoka, made a critical save against Jacen Russell-Rowe in the 90th minute, keeping the Whitecaps’ hopes alive, but the team was ultimately unable to capitalize.

aliyu’s goal came after he ran onto a through ball from Lassi Lappalainen, who was making his first start for the Crew after six seasons with CF Montreal. Aliyu finished the play by converting Lappalainen’s cross in the penalty area.

The Whitecaps responded swiftly, initiating a counterattack from midfield. Pedro Vite found Mathias Laborda, who passed to Daniel Rios for a shot just outside the box.The shot was slightly deflected by Ngando but found the back of the net.

The crew regained the lead when Daniel Gazdag pressured Tristan Blackmon, causing a turnover in Vancouver’s defensive third. Rossi capitalized on the opportunity,scoring his ninth goal of the season.

Columbus had three goals disallowed for offside in the 64th, 76th, and 80th minutes. The team was caught offside a total of seven times during the match.

The Whitecaps were missing five players due to the Gold cup of concacaf, including Sebastian Berhalter and Brian White, who are representing the American national team. The Crew was without midfielder Max arfsten.

Evan Bush made his second start of the season in goal for the Crew, filling in for the injured Patrick Schulte and Nicholas Hagen (Guatemala).
