For over a decade, Dr. Pérez Tanoira has dedicated his career to international cooperation, focusing on establishing and improving clinical microbiology laboratories in underserved rural communities across Africa and Latin America. His work specifically addresses infectious diseases prevalent in these regions, including tuberculosis, malaria, and antimicrobial-resistant gastrointestinal infections.[[3]The impact of his work is significant. By advancing clinical microbiology laboratories, Dr. Pérez Tanoira facilitates more accurate microbiological diagnoses,enabling earlier and more effective interventions. This leads to a reduction in child morbidity and mortality, ultimately improving life expectancy in these areas.

Beyond infrastructure development, Dr. Pérez tanoira ensures the long-term success of these projects through health education, continuous training of local personnel, and the establishment of partnerships with health and academic institutions.[[5]His key projects include the development and enhancement of microbiology laboratories at hospitals such as the Notre Dame de la Santé (Cameroon),the General Hospital of Gambo (Ethiopia),and the Saint Joseph Hospital in Kitgum (Uganda).He has also collaborated on implementing an assistance laboratory for a mobile clinic in Jean rabel (Haiti) and Turka (Kenya).[[6]Addressing Antimicrobial Resistance and Infrastructure Needs[[7]”Having a more advanced clinical microbiology laboratory means being able to have a more precise microbiological diagnosis.”

With two doctorates from the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Helsinki, Dr.Pérez Tanoira has spearheaded projects to detect antimicrobial resistance in low-income areas. He has also led initiatives to improve essential infrastructure,such as providing clean drinking water and reliable electricity to rural hospitals.

Currently, dr. Pérez Tanoira co-coordinates the Master of Tropical Medicine and international Health at the Autonomous University of Madrid. This program aims to provide specialized training for professionals in the field, offering opportunities for residencies and collaborative projects in hospitals in Gambo (Ethiopia), Rugucherry (India), and iquitos (Peru).
