Andrea Marrucci, the mayor of San Gimignano, expressed gratitude to the Allied forces, the civilians who perished, Italian military internees, political prisoners, and the fallen partisans. Montepulciano Remembers a Local Hero

Angiolini credited Mazzini’s generation with liberating the region as early as 1944, driving out Nazi forces and dismantling the remnants of the fascist regime.
