BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Measles cases are rising across the U.S., and North Dakota’s rural hospitals are making sure they are prepared.

The CDC reports that there are now 2,000 confirmed cases across the country.

In North Dakota, there have been 36.

Despite the low local number, rural hospitals want to be proactive.

“Anything that’s being spread out in the country, state, you know, it’s always something to pay attention to, but at this point it hasn’t impacted us locally,” said Lukas Fischer, the CEO of Linton Regional Medical Center.

Measles mostly affects under-vaccinated communities. It is highly contagious and can linger in the air for hours.
