Measles Cases Drop: Week 9 Immunization Update

by Archynetys Health Desk

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Health said that in the 9th week of 2026, measles cases in Indonesia fell to 511 cases from the previous 531 cases, because massive immunization and education about clean and healthy living had been carried out in a number of areas.

“Yes, that means it has decreased, yes, and the response to immunization, whether ORI, Outbreak Response Immunization, yes, it has been implemented for all districts and cities where an outbreak occurred, then for those where an outbreak did not occur but cases increased at that time, a catch-up campaign for immunization or catch-up immunization has also been carried out,” said Acting Director General of Disease Control at the Ministry of Health Andi Saguni.

He said in Jakarta, Friday, that the infectiousness of measles is dangerous, because one person can infect 12-18 other people, especially toddlers, although there are a few cases in adults.

“So there are 2 basic immunizations for measles. At the age of 9 months and 18 months. When it was just once, carried out at 9 months, the coverage for protection, immunity was around 80 percent. But when the second immunization was given at the age of 18 months it increased to 97 percent,” he said.

In an effort to prevent transmission, his party is collaborating with district and city health services as well as the Health Quarantine Center at a number of homecoming post points to provide measles immunization services, in addition to providing Free Health Checks (CKG).

On that occasion, he reminded parents and guardians to pay attention to the condition of their children before traveling this Eid season.

“So if you have a fever, cough, runny nose, or other signs such as conjunctivitis that could lead to measles, a case of measles, immediately take them to a health service facility for examination,” he said.

Even better, he said, would be to postpone the trip until the child recovers, considering that measles is highly contagious.

Previously, the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that his party was targeting that within 1-2 weeks, measles immunization coverage could reach 95 percent before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/Lebaran 2026.

“Well, today it’s been a week. I look the result is good penetration. I don’t have the exact figure yet. But we are chase “If possible, this will be before Eid,” said Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin in Jakarta, Thursday (12/3).

The Minister of Health said that immunization had been carried out in 50 districts/cities. As for the achievement target before Eid, he continued, because when people go home, people move massively, so there is a risk of spread.
