Jakarta: The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) said that measles cases in Indonesia have fallen from 531 cases to 511 cases as of the ninth week of 2026. The decline is due to massive immunization and education about clean and healthy living that has been carried out in a number of areas.
“Yes, that means it has decreased, yes, and the response to immunization is either ORI, Outbreak Response Immunization, yes, it has been implemented for all districts and cities where an outbreak occurred, then for those where an outbreak did not occur but cases increased at that time, a catch-up campaign for immunization or catch-up immunization has also been carried out,” said Plt. Director General of Disease Management, Ministry of Health, Andi Saguni, quoted from Indonesian MediaSaturday, March 14 2026.
Andi said that measles transmission is dangerous, because one person can infect 12-18 other people, especially toddlers, although there are a few cases in adults.
“So, there are 2 basic immunizations for measles. At the age of 9 months and 18 months. When it was just once, carried out at 9 months, the coverage for protection, immunity was around 80 percent. But when the second immunization was given at the age of 18 months it increased to 97 percent,” said Andi.

In an effort to prevent transmission, the Ministry of Health is collaborating with district and city health offices and Health Quarantine Centers at a number of homecoming post points to provide measles immunization services, in addition to providing Free Health Checks (CKG).
On that occasion, Andi reminded parents and guardians to pay attention to their children’s condition before traveling this Eid season. “So if you have a fever, cough, runny nose, or other signs such as conjunctivitis which could lead to measles, a case of measles, immediately take them to a health service facility for examination,” said Andi.
It is better to postpone the trip until the child recovers. Because measles has a high infectious capacity.
Previously, the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that his party was targeting that within 1-2 weeks, measles immunization coverage could reach 95 percent before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/Lebaran 2026.
“Well, it’s been a week now. I see that the penetration is good. I don’t have the exact figures yet. But we are pursuing this if we can before Eid,” said Budi.
Budi said immunization had been carried out in 50 city districts. As for the achievement target before Eid, he continued, because when people go home, people move massively, so there is a risk of spread.
