Carlos Mazón, in the public target for his management of the dana that ended the lives of 229 people in Valencia, will take a step back in the next regional elections. The question is when they will be held. They would have to be convened in 2027… but it does not seem likely at this time that the current Govern go so far.
- The Valencian president’s plan is to promote the current president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Vicente Mompó, as the next candidate for the Generalitat.
Why Mompó? The popular one has acquired media relevance in recent days. He was present from the beginning of the Cecopi meeting on October 29, 2024 and was the one who asked the Emergency Minister to send the alert to cell phones.
But Mazón’s context makes it difficult for him to design a strategy. The president is on the political and judicial stalk.
- This Monday the judge investigating the management of the dana will interview journalist Maribel Vilaplana, with whom Mazón spent more than four hours on the day of the tragedy.
- And in the PP they admit that there is “a before and after” after the public ridicule to which Mazón was subjected during the tribute to the victims.
What other scenarios exist? Alberto Núñez Feijóo is evaluating how to relieve Mazón without harming the PP in the general elections and avoiding a left-wing majority in the Valencian Cortes.
- The final decision on the candidacy will come at the Valencian regional congress, which is pending.
