The search continues for a British tourist who disappeared in Catalonia, spain. Matthew Chapman,24,was reported missing after he traveled from Manchester in a van.The vehicle was later found abandoned near Tossa de Mar, a coastal town approximately 60 miles north of Barcelona.

Extensive Search Efforts

A comprehensive two-day search and rescue operation was launched, involving drones and a helicopter. However, the search was called off after authorities were unable to locate Mr Chapman. The Catalan police force confirmed that the search included land, sea, and air support.

Family’s Anguish

matthew Chapman’s parents, Jane and Andrew Chapman, initially hoped their son was simply sleeping in his van while touring Europe. Jane Chapman expressed the family’s initial hope that he would eventually return home. She said: “We thought he was sleeping in his van,so that’s caused more angst. We were in the hope that he was just touring Europe and that when he ran out of money, he’d be a bit sheepish and get back in touch with his tail between his legs. That’s what we were hoping for.”

Investigation Details

The family has reportedly had limited interaction from the spanish police regarding the ongoing investigation. Local authorities have confirmed that Mr Chapman traveled to france via the Channel Tunnel before spending time in Portugal and Spain. His mobile phone signal was last detected near Tossa de Mar, according to police reports.

A spokesperson for the Catalan police force confirmed a two-day search had been carried out: “It was a land, sea and air search which took place on Wednesday and Thursday. The investigation into the missing man’s whereabouts is continuing.”
