Gabon is on the path to revolutionizing malaria treatment. An advance considered promising in the fight against this disease was presented last Wednesday to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Government Spokesperson, Professor Charles Edgar Mombo.
At the origin of this innovation: Professor Ghislain Mombo-Ngoma and his team from the Lambaréné Medical Research Center (CERMEL). They developed an antimalarial treatment administered in a single dose.
During this meeting, researchers revealed results from clinical trials showing a cure rate estimated at 93%. A performance which raises real hope in the management of malaria, an endemic disease which remains one of the main health challenges in Gabon and on the African continent.
Beyond its effectiveness, this treatment could constitute a breakthrough in current protocols, by considerably simplifying patient care thanks to administration in a single dose, thus improving therapeutic compliance.
Welcoming this scientific breakthrough, Minister Charles Edgar Mombo congratulated the team for the quality of its work and its contribution to the influence of national research. He also indicated that these results will be transmitted to the highest authorities, for examination with a view to appropriation at the national level.
This innovation from CERMEL confirms the rise in power of Gabonese medical research, and opens new perspectives in the fight against a disease which continues to kill and weigh heavily on public health.
