The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) responded to a letter sent by the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) to Commission III of the DPR regarding the request to form a working committee (panja) to investigate the polemic about transferring the detention of former Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. The Corruption Eradication Committee welcomed the sending of the letter positively.

“We certainly welcome and thank the Indonesian people as much as possible, especially in this case from MAKI, because this is a form of support and concern for us in handling this Hajj quota case,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK building, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Thursday (26/3/2026).

Asep expressed his thanks to MAKI. He said that what MAKI was doing was a form of support and concern for the KPK.

“Because of course with that support, with that attention, the community will beupdate “Yes, it is related to the handling of the case and the steps we are taking,” he said.

Previously, the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) sent a letter to Commission III DPR. The letter contains a request for the formation of a working committee (panja) to investigate the polemic about transferring the detention of former Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

MAKI Proposes DPR Working Committee

MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman believes that there are a number of irregularities in the transfer of Yaqut’s detention which must be investigated through the DPR Working Committee. First, it is alleged that the KPK leadership accepted and tolerated intervention from outside parties.

“The KPK leadership is suspected of allowing the KPK to be intervened by outside parties in transferring the house arrest of the YCQ suspect and not reporting this intervention to the KPK Supervisory Board,” Boyamin told reporters, Thursday (26/3).

MAKI also highlighted differences in information from officials at the Corruption Eradication Commission regarding Yaqut’s health condition. Boyamin said that the statement by KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo that the transfer of Yaqut’s custody was not based on health factors was inversely proportional to the statement made by KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu.

“KPK Deputy for Enforcement Asep Guntur did not carry out health tests and checks through a competent doctor in ordering the transfer of suspect YCQ to house arrest, in fact it was only recently that Asep Guntur stated that YCQ was suffering from GERD and asthma,” explained Boyamin.

MAKI said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was suspected of not being transparent in the process of transferring Yaqut’s detention. This is because the information about Yaqut being under house arrest was not first conveyed by the KPK, but by the wife of one of the detainees.

“On the other hand, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) also carried out a process of lies and covertness when releasing them from detention with the sentence that additional examinations would be carried out, which other detainees felt was odd because it was only two days before Eid,” explained Boyamin.

Based on these considerations, MAKI urged Commission III of the DPR to form a working committee to investigate the polemic about Yaqut’s transfer of prisoners. Boyamin said that the results of the DPR Panja could later also be used by the KPK Dewas in deciding whether there were ethical violations committed by KPK leaders and investigators.

“Even though YCQ has been returned to the detention center, there has been a clandestine transfer of house arrest and various other irregularities, so it is still necessary for the DPR Working Committee to take a complete picture of the alleged irregularities as well as recommend improvements,” said Boyamin.

As is known, Yaqut has been under house arrest since Thursday (19/3) after being detained in a detention center on Thursday (12/3). After four days of detention, Yaqut was returned to the KPK Detention Center on Tuesday (24/3).
