Cities from at least 24 countries – except Venezuela – will join the march called for December 6, four days before the Nobel Peace Prize awarded this year to the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado in Norway, her political party Vente Venezuela (VV) reported this Monday.

The political awning pointed out that the “uncertainty and repressive escalation in Venezuela does not yet allow for the announcement of concentrations within the country,” until the “safety of the people who would mobilize” is guaranteed.

“There are still five days left and we hope that conditions change so that Venezuelans can also join in this recognition that belongs to the entire population,” VV added.

Venezuelans abroad march to honor Machado’s Nobel Prize

In Spain, Machado’s followers will be concentrated in 20 cities, including Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante, Zaragoza and Valencia. In Latin America, marches will be held in Medellín and Bogotá (Colombia), Boa Vista and Brasilia (Brazil), Buenos Aires and Córdoba (Argentina), Lima and Arequipa (Peru), La Paz and Sucre (Bolivia), Asunción and Encarnación (Paraguay), Santiago (Chile), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Quito (Ecuador).

Likewise, mobilizations were called in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Canada and European capitals such as Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Rome, Amsterdam, Zurich, Brussels, Budapest, Stockholm and London.

“That day we marched to accompany the Nobel Peace Prize and remind the world that Venezuela’s fight for freedom is still alive,” said VV.

The party recalled that the mobilization is part of a series of activities planned “to honor the Venezuelans’ fight for freedom.”

VV explained that the initiative is part of the “The Nobel is ours” movement, created to symbolize that “recognition does not belong to one person, but to an entire country” and to turn the award into “a global megaphone that projects the Venezuelan cause.”

The organization added that while the government of Nicolás Maduro “tries to silence the achievement within the territory, the Venezuelan diaspora will be the engine to amplify the message in the world.”

Nobel Committee warns of danger of Machado’s trip to Oslo

The Norwegian Nobel Committee confirmed that Machado will travel to Oslo to receive the award. However, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, leader of the committee, warned the public channel NRK that it is “a dangerous trip because the Venezuelan regime has said that it wants to get her out of the way,” and stressed the importance of guaranteeing the opposition’s safety during her trip and return.

Machado assured the Norwegian newspaper Today’s Business that he will only be able to travel if Venezuela is “free,” and warned that as long as Maduro remains in power he cannot leave the country for security reasons.
