Longing & Relief: Finding Joy Again

by Archynetys Sports Desk

It seemed to end a draw and 1-1 at Lerkendal when the clock ticked towards 85 minutes.

On the field came the “Lion” Ole Sæter, who has struggled with playing time in the RBK suit this season.

He immediately showed what he is best at: Score goals. A high post from Ole Selnæs fell down in front of the Mainz goal. There, Ole Sæter put his forehead and gave Rosenborg the victory. See the goal at the top of the case.

– It was absolutely wild. My God, so good, Sæter tells VG and continues:

– God I have missed scoring goals and becoming a match winner.

The goal scorer and hero have been rumored from Rosenborg all summer. Vålerenga has been very interested in the lead, but Rosenborg declined the bid from the Oslo club. Now he has been crucial both against Hammarby last week, and Mainz on Thursday night.

– It has been pig heavy for a period. I feel I have contributed too little, says Sæter.

– When it is your childhood club and you are on the way you are, it is absolutely fantastic to be decisive. It doesn’t get any better than this, he says.

It was the home team that opened the match best. Simen Bolkan Nordli tested Mainz’s goalkeeper Robin Zentner after only five minutes, but the German got a hand on the shot from Rosenborg’s number seven.

Four minutes later, Jesper Reitan-Sunde tried the shooting foot from 20 meters, but again Zentner joined the game.

Then came a cannonball from Germany.

  • Nadiem Amiri got the ball around 35 meters from goal. After making the ball settled Mainz’s captain with straight anger, and the ball flaked back and forth in the air before it ended in the nearest intersection behind RBK goalkeeper Sander Tangvik.

– It should be possible to get a glove on it, says VG+ Sports expert commentator Pål André Helland.

Although they got a real cold shower, Rosenborg continued in the same track.

A post with direction towards Dino Islamovic finally landed in the legs of Simen Bolkan Nordli five meters from goal. A cat leap from Zentner prevented the equalization.

Then Kaishu Sano kicked in the foot of Reitan-Sunde. Almost all of Lerkendal shouted for a penalty, but referee Oleksii Degvinskyi let the game move on.

“I know he’s on me,” Reitan-Sunde said during the break.

Then he was to see the situation again on a TV screen. After a quick look, he was in no doubt.

  • Dino Islamovic advanced to Rosenborg. From eleven meters, the Swede was never in doubt and sent Zentner to the right while knocking the ball almost in the middle of goal.

– It is almost a facet of a penalty, says Helland.

After the rest, Andreas Hanche-Olsen entered the Mainz defense.

The Germans took control in the second half immediately. Amiri found Jae-Sung Lee in the RBK field, but Tangvik was fast up with his arms on the shot from the Mainz striker.

Then, four minutes before the end, Ole Sæter was replaced and decided for the Trunders.

– Of course very delicious. I think it’s deserved. We are clearly, clearly the best team, says RBK captain Ole Selnæs.

Although he thought it was sour to lose, Hanche-Olsen managed to give some brag to Rosenborg.

– I think they seem to have something going on. They have a skilled trainer, pretty good individual quality and a good team, he says.

Prior to the match against Rosenborg, Mainz’s sports director Christian Heidel went out against the German Football Association and called the leadership for “Desk Racrobates”.

The reason is that Mainz did not move a cup match and had to play it on Monday, just three days before the first settlement against the Trunders.

Rosenborg, for his part, has rested all weekend. They last played a match on Thursday last week when they beat Hammarby. The reason is that they have moved elite series matches and played them earlier this year.

You can see the return settlement in Germany with VG+ Sport on Thursday 28th August at 9pm
