Charity Smith-Allen Announces Candidacy for Arkansas State Senate

Charity Smith-Allen has officially declared her candidacy for the Arkansas State Senate, setting the stage for a competitive race in District 15.

With state Rep. Fred allen (D-Little Rock) facing term limits,his wife,Charity Smith-Allen,is aiming for a seat in the arkansas Legislature. Charity Smith-allen announced her candidacy tuesday, seeking the Senate District 15 position currently held by Democrat Fred Love.

in an email, Smith-Allen explained that the Senate offered a more suitable platform for her ambitions.

“After years of serving in education, health, and community leadership roles, I believe the Senate is where I can make the most powerful and lasting impact. The broader platform and policy reach of the Senate align with my passion for advancing equity,improving education,and creating meaningful change across District 15 and beyond. This isn’t about sidestepping tradition – it’s about stepping fully into my own calling,” she said.

Smith-Allen joins state Rep. Tara shephard (D-Little Rock) in the District 15 race. shephard announced her candidacy last month.

Smith-Allen, a Democrat, has emphasized education as her top priority. Her campaign proclamation highlighted her extensive background:

With a lifelong dedication too education, equity, and empowerment, Dr. Smith-allen enters the race with an extensive record of public service. She has served as Assistant Commissioner of Education for the State of Arkansas,Lead Planner for Desegregation,and currently serves as Principal education Associate at Fetterman & Associates,Chair of the Division of Education at Philander Smith University,and Vice President of the Arkansas Minority Health Commission.
Her experience includes roles as a classroom teacher, collage instructor, ACT coach, principal, executive director, and legislative collaborator. She has helped draft and champion impactful legislation such as the Universal ACT and the Highly Qualified professor and Teacher Act. Her leadership in raising ACT scores and expanding college and career readiness has made a lasting impact across the state. She earned her doctorate from the University of Arkansas at little Rock.
