The president of ASPP – Police Professionals Union Association reveals to Antena 1 that this is a scenario that is being evaluated.
“The information I have is that this possibility is being considered to test the capacity through the application of the system”says Paulo Santos, and the system can be activated from Monday.
Antena 1 had learned that the system would be tested again, after the announced staff reinforcements in the border area of Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon.
On December 30, the suspension of the European border control system for non-EU citizens was announced, a suspension that would be maintained for three months. Behind the decision was the high waiting times that were being recorded when serving and entering passengers.
The GNR has placed 24 guards on duty at the airport since Tuesday, the same day that the PSP announced that it would train 60 elements to be in the border area from the end of February.
Even so, Paulo Santos states that the advertisements “do not correspond to reality”, arguing that they were an “exercise in illusion so as not to demonstrate the fragility that exists”.
Contacted by Antena 1, PSP, ANA Aeroportos and the Government have not yet confirmed the information regarding the EES system test (Entry/Exit SystemEntry/Exit System), which had started operating in October. The GNR and the SSI (Internal Security System) refuse to make any comment.
