Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty in the Lil Durk murder-for-hire case, according to recent court filings.

Death Penalty Off the Table for Lil Durk

As Lil Durk’s trial approaches, the attorney General for the United States has directed the United States Attorney for the Central District of California to forgo seeking the death penalty against the 32-year-old rapper. The decision was formalized in court documents filed on Monday, June 2.

“The Attorney General… has directed the United States Attorney… not to seek the death penalty.”

The rapper, arrested last October, faces charges related to the 2022 killing of Saviay’a Robinson, also known as Lul Pab, who was Quando Rondo’s cousin. The charges against Durk include using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire,and using,carrying,and discharging firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. He is accused of paying five men to travel to California with the intent to kill Quando Rondo.The attempt resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin at a Beverly Hills, Calif., gas station. If convicted,Durk could face a life sentence.

Lil Durk’s Bond Denials

lil Durk has been denied bond multiple times leading up to his trial. his most recent request was rejected by a judge last month,despite his attorneys offering a substantial bond package. The package included approximately $900,000 in equity in real property, $1 million in cash, third-party sureties, home detention, and 24/7 surveillance by a security service.

Lil Durk has pleaded not guilty and remains in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center. His trial, initially set for January 7, is now scheduled to commence on October 14.
