A wide variety of scams are always making the rounds in Austria. Fraud is currently being carried out again with the “Lidl” brand – and the supermarket giant’s supposed online shops.
As a 5 Minutes reader explains, in the past few weeks she has received suggestions about supposed Lidl online shops particularly frequently on the social media platform. “There’s everything there, from coffee machines to sofas to toolboxes,” says the young woman. This scam also occurred in the summer months – we also reported back then. In any case, we have now asked Lidl what the best thing to do if you come across such an “online shop”.
“Lidl does not operate its own online shop in Austria”
One thing in advance: “Lidl does not currently operate its own online shop in Austria,” said the supermarket giant when asked by 5 Minutes. However, cases and feedback regarding such fake shops are known, but action is difficult. The reason for this is that operators mostly operate abroad and the fact that images of the articles are freely accessible on the Internet and those responsible are generally difficult to identify.

Lidl fake shops are currently circulating on TikTok.
What those affected can do
In any case, they assure: “It is of course not in our interest for customers to be harmed by such dubious offers.” They are therefore advised to only trust reputable sources. “Real company profiles on social media, for example, are marked with a blue checkmark and our official website is always ‘www.lidl.at’. Customers should pay particular attention to different URLs or email addresses, as fakes are immediately recognizable,” Lidl Austria told 5 Minuten. However, if it is already too late and you have become a victim of fraud, the discounter advises you to “immediately report it to the police.”
