The Cuban pitcher Leskian Acosta arrived in the Dominican Republic in the last few hoursto sign with an MLB organization, as reported by journalist Francys Romero, who specializes in the international MLB market.
Acosta, born in Mayabeque, was part of the Cuban U15 team that competed last September and is considered one of the most promising pitchers of his generation.
According to Romero on Facebook
Eligible for the international period 2027-2028
The pitcher will be eligible to sign a contract in the 2027-2028 international period, so his coming to the Dominican Republic is part of an early development strategy, adaptation and visibility within the academy system that works directly with MLB organizations.
Acosta is being trained by former MLB player Alex Sánchez’s academy, one of the private institutions that serves as a platform for young Cuban talent looking to forge a path into professional baseball.
Growing exodus in the youth categories
The departure of Leskian Acosta confirms an increasingly clear trend: More than 50% of the Cuban U-15 team’s Premundial roster has already left the islandto seek career opportunities outside of the state athletic system.
This phenomenon reflects the accelerated loss of talent in the training categories caused by the lack of legal and direct routes to access the MLB of Cuba, as well as the economic and structural limitations of national baseball.
Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic continues to solidify itself as the main transit and development point for Cuban talent, who see this country as the most promising opportunity to realize their Major League Baseball dream.
