With a good tailwind, Lena Dürr travels to the night slalom in Courchevel. There the ski racer is almost inevitably one of the favorites to win the World Cup. After all, she can look back on some successes there.

Courchevel is a very special place for Lena Dürr. Here in the ski area “Les Trois Vallées” high up in the French Alps, the strongest German slalom skier achieved her greatest individual success ever: Here she won bronze at the World Championships, even though, strictly speaking, she was still successful over there on the other side in Méribel in 2023. However, right in Courchevel, not far from the local ski jump, she already has a podium finish to her name: third place in the night slalom last winter.

Dürr is traveling third Slalom-Weltcups nach Courchevel

On Tuesday evening (December 16th) Dürr returns for the next night slalom in Courchevel. And she can’t deny the anticipation: “I’m traveling to Courchevel with good memories of third place last season and I’m really looking forward to the night slalom”says the 34-year-old. The currently seventh place in the overall World Cup wants to build on the 260 World Cup points she has so far, and in the special discipline of slalom she is even in third place.

It seems to become more stable from winter to winter. Dürr has already experienced almost everything, was once a great German skiing hope, who then had to overcome difficult years, and then returned to the top Alpine skiing world. Especially in this Olympic season, she will continue to be a force to be reckoned with – now she is even racing at the top in the giant slalom, Dürr always has a surprise ready.

Preparation at home at Gudiberg in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

At the Gudiberg at home in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Lena Dürr got the necessary fine-tuning – and after the overseas races in the USA, the equally necessary feeling of home again. She also had to get used to the snow on this side of the Atlantic again.

On the other side of the pond, skiing has already worked quite well: the athlete from SV Germering arrives with the recommendation of second place in Copper Mountain. Mikaela Shiffrin is aiming for her fifth win in a row in this discipline across all seasons.

Emma Aicher is also among the favorites at the night slalom in Courchevel

However, Dürr is not the only top German driver in the fight for the next World Cup podium on Tuesday: Emma Aicher is also back in the floodlights in France. The 22-year-old all-rounder, who was already on the podium in the Slalom in Levi this year, will probably start with a few bruises, unlike Dürr.

After her downhill victory in St. Moritz on Saturday, she fell in the Super-G the next day. Afterwards, however, she immediately gave the all-clear and reported fit for Courchevel in good time. Jessica Hilzinger, who recently collected World Cup points for the first time this winter in Copper Mountain, is also there.
