Laura Benanti Calls Out Zachary Levi for Political Agenda and ‘Mansplaining’
Broadway star Laura Benanti is speaking out against her former co-star Zachary Levi, accusing him of using the death of their late colleague Gavin Creel to push his political agenda.
Benanti’s comments came during a recent appearance on the "That’s a Gay Ass Podcast." She recalled working with Levi on the 2016 revival of "She Loves Me" and stated, "I never liked him. Everyone was like, ‘He’s so great!’ And I was like, ‘No, he’s not. He’s sucking up all the f–king energy in this room. He wants to mansplain everybody’s part to them.’"
However, the root of Benanti’s anger stems from Levi’s comments about Creel’s death. Creel, a celebrated Broadway actor, died in September at the age of 48 following a battle with cancer. Levi, in an Instagram Live video, suggested that Creel’s death might be linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.
"For him to use Gavin’s memory — a person he was not friends with — to use his memory for his political agenda and to watch him try to make himself cry until he had one single tear, which he did not wipe away, I was like, ‘F–k you forever,’" Benanti stated passionately.
She further criticized Levi’s stance, believing that he will find success in Christian, faith-based film and television despite his controversial views. "He’s going to be a huge f–king star in that realm. He’s going to make more money than he ever has. It makes me nauseous. And also a little bit like, ‘I told you mother f–kers!’"
