Las Palmas: More Street Cleaning in Ciudad Alta | Gran Canaria

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has reinforced the service of street cleaning with the incorporation of 30 new troops destined for the district of Upper Citya measure that will continue to improve urban hygiene in the streets and public spaces of the municipality.

The presentation of this new reinforcement has been carried out through the Municipal Cleaning Service, with the participation of the mayor, Carolina Dariasand the Councilor for Cleaning, Héctor Alemán. Darias explained that this incorporation is part of the process initiated with the new emergency contract signed by the City Council to undertake extraordinary cleaning work. “This is a new package of personnel that has been progressively incorporated into street cleaning tasks, coming from the emergency contract that the city activated to reinforce urban hygiene,” he said.

The 30 new workers join street cleaning in Seven Palms, The Towers y Atlantic Quarterreinforcing the presence of the service in these areas. According to the mayor, “this reinforcement allows us to continue improving the presence of the service in the neighborhoods and more effectively address real day-to-day needs.”

Darias positively assessed the impact of the deployment already carried out and assured that “the contribution of this new staff and this reinforcement in the city’s urban hygiene tasks is being significantly noted,” also advancing that the City Council will continue incorporating troops in the coming weeks.

This new staffing also allows enhance night servicewith the incorporation of six troops who will especially take care of the cleaning in industrial zones and the work related to special events and situations.

New multipurpose truck for special cleaning

During the event, a new multipurpose truckof more than 3.500 kilosintended for the sanitation of spaces affected by the accumulation of waste, junk and belongings. The vehicle allows loading from both the rear and the sides and has a large crane equipped with an “octopus” type accessory, capable of removing bulky objects, remains of vegetation and debris in hard to reach areassuch as slopes, open fields or plots.

The single cab truck is operated by three troops —a driver and two operators—, which reinforces the efficiency and versatility of special cleaning actions.

With this new reinforcement, the new cleaning contract has already involved the incorporation of more than 230 people y more than 30 vehiclessignificantly improving the operational capacity of the service in both street cleaning and waste collection, and offering a more agile and effective response in the different neighborhoods of the city.
