Lannion well in the game

“We played Angers eye to eye,” appreciated Simon Breton, the LTB coachat the end of the match. The Lannionnais, playing in the second regional division, had no complexes facing an elite team, residents of the highest French level. Credited with a lead of 7 points (gap in level required), the young Lannionnais started the match with rigor and personality to end the first quarter tied (28-28).

Several free throws left in the way, a few minutes of stopping for raindrops falling from the ceiling, and less comfortable shots later, the LTB seemed to show beginning of shortness of breath against the Angevins who, without gaining the upper hand, took advantage of their consistency to reach half-time in the lead (44-51). Pierrick Le Pesquer, skillful captain, kept his people in contact.

Angers cracks the LTB

And the big fight continued after returning from the locker room. While Angers thought they had made the hole, Lannion in turn took the points and with the support of a lively crowd, came back into the match. Youenn Jan, untenable, the best scorer of his team (24 points), scored a big three points to bring his team to -6 and ten minutes from time, the LTB was only a small point behind (70-71) at the end of this third quarter won (26-20).

The Lannionnaise fouge cast doubt on Angers, who did not panic however. Come Reeres Smith and his partners remained in the game, and Timothée Moreau, three minutes from the end, put his team three lengths behind Angers. Before a fatal physical air gap: a minute and a half later, used with great realism, the gap this time was 12 points for Angers, a decisive advantage.

“I am extremely proud”

It was a historic match for the club, and the young Trégorroise guard honored it with a capital H. All you had to do was see the smiles of the public afterwards. What to hear, too, the praises of their coach:

I am extremely proud of my players, I hope they will learn from that. This is the result of work that began in August. It’s a lot of sacrifice and effort. I am very tough, very demanding with them in training, I am renowned for that (laughs), but when I see what they are capable of giving, it proves me right!

“We put Lannion on the map”

Among the visitors, it was the satisfaction of having avoided the “trap” that took precedence: “It was difficult to find the rhythm. They produced a nice game, with their strengths, in a great atmosphere. They outsmarted us, analyzed their coach, Thomas Andrew. We manage to manage the end intelligently: I told them to calm down, and to press inside, where it was important with our athletic advantage.”

After eliminating the CEP Lorient, another national level team, the adventure ends there for the LTB, without a second exploit, but with this word repeated again and again: “pride”:

There is a bit of disappointment, because I think we could have won, but we told the players to leave the locker room with their heads held high: they made everyone proud. I’ve been here for three and a half years, this is the first time I’ve seen the room filled like this. We put Lannion on the basketball map in France.
