A local road show was held in the U.S. to scout for research personnel in the U.S. who were unable to come and go to Korea as U.S. President Trump raised visa barriers.
The Korean government and companies are working together to recruit talent from the United States in key fields such as AI, bio, and semiconductors.

At the global R&D talent recruitment roadshow held in the middle of New York, USA, four Korean government ministries, five public institutions, 29 companies, four major science and technology institutes, and government-funded research institutes participated to scout local research talent in the United States.

The main targets are talented people who have become stranded as President Trump raised the visa threshold, such as raising the H-1B professional work visa fee by 140 million won.

The Korean government and companies plan to increase their international technological competitiveness by traveling to Silicon Valley, New York, and Texas to attract artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and semiconductor experts.

When our companies recruit researchers and international students from the United States, the government supports visas, housing, and children’s education, and thanks to the recent K-culture craze, the local response is good.

The talents hired this time will carry out key projects at the Korean headquarters and research institute, or be responsible for the competitiveness of the local U.S. subsidiary and research and development center.
The government plans to further expand the scale next year and recruit research personnel from not only the United States but also Europe to publicize the fact that Korea is an attractive research base.
