Have frequent snoring checked out
For example, are sleepwalking or talking in your sleep warning signs? Rabia Liamlahi, senior physician at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, who advises families during sleep consultations, gives the all-clear: “Talking and sleepwalking are a common phenomenon in children and are usually not a sign of poor sleep.” When sleepwalking, the areas of the brain responsible for movement wake up, but those responsible for consciousness are still asleep. “Coordinated waking up doesn’t work yet – it usually grows out,” explains Rabia Liamlahi. The same applies to night terrors, which particularly affect children of kindergarten age. It is a similar phenomenon to sleepwalking, but during night terrors the areas of the brain that are responsible for emotions are also awake. Even if children snore because of a cold, it is no reason to worry. However, if snoring is persistent, pauses in breathing or the child does not recover during the day, the cause of the snoring should be clarified.
