actress Kate Beckinsale is taking legal action against the producers of the action thriller “Canary Black,” alleging that she sustained a serious knee injury due to unsafe working conditions during the film’s production in Croatia.

According to the lawsuit, Kate Beckinsale‘s injury occurred while filming an action sequence that lacked adequate safety measures. She contends that a stunt performer should have executed the scene, especially given that her stunt double had previously suffered an ankle injury.

The legal filing further claims that the demanding filming schedule, with days extending up to 15 hours despite a contractual 12-hour limit, contributed to hazardous conditions stemming from fatigue.

The incident in question occurred in December 2022, when Kate Beckinsale was required to perform a scene where another actor forcefully threw her against a wall.

“Ms. Beckinsale complained that the scene did not seem safe,and that the throwing of her into the wall was too hard and too dangerous,” the lawsuit alleges.”Notwithstanding the complaints by Ms. Beckinsale, there were numerous takes of this dangerous scene.”

The complaint states that Kate Beckinsale suffered a complex tear of her left meniscus as an inevitable result of the incident. She sought medical attention and was unable to work for several weeks, eventually returning to the set in February to complete filming.

The lawsuit further alleges that upon her return, the producers disregarded her doctor’s recommendations and pressured her into performing additional unsafe action scenes.

Kate Beckinsale‘s legal team initially filed a preliminary version of the lawsuit in December, using the pseudonym “Jane Doe” for the actress. Anton Entertainment, the named defendant, was not served until the complaint was amended in May with more detailed allegations and Kate beckinsale‘s real name. As of now,the defendants have not yet filed a response in court.

The film “Canary black” premiered on Amazon Prime last year.
