Strengthening Roots: Judo Club halver’s Vision for the Future
The Judo Club Halver (JCH) is strategically focusing on expanding its youth engagement through enhanced collaboration with local schools. This initiative was a key topic at the club’s recent annual general meeting, where members celebrated a year of stable membership and sporting achievements but also looked ahead to future growth.

tapping into Untapped Potential: School Partnerships as a Growth Engine
Despite a healthy membership of 153 individuals, with a significant portion actively participating in judo and karate, the JCH recognizes the need to broaden its reach, particularly among teenagers and young adults. The consensus at the meeting was clear: while the club excels in its activities, its presence within the wider halver community could be substantially strengthened.
The club aims to replicate past successes, such as the former school team at the AFG, wich clinched a district title. Cashier Marc Blätgen emphasized the potential of school partnerships, stating, In the past, we had a school team at the AFG, with which we easily got the district title.
By re-establishing thes connections, the JCH hopes to introduce more young people to the benefits of judo and karate, fostering a new generation of athletes and club members.
Adapting to Evolving Standards: Rule Changes and Youth Motivation
The JCH is also adapting to changes within the sport itself. Recent modifications to judo rules have accelerated the process of achieving the entry-level belt. While this change has sparked debate within the judo community, the JCH believes that this faster progression can serve as a powerful motivator for young participants, encouraging them to stay engaged and committed to the sport.
The meeting agreed that the path to a first fast success can motivate children and adolescents more.
Strengthening Infrastructure: New Judges and Hosting opportunities
To further enhance its capabilities, the JCH has successfully trained two new judges, exceeding the required number. This development positions the club favorably to host significant events, such as the district championships for the U11 and U15 age groups in Halver. Having more qualified judges ensures fair play and enhances the overall quality of these competitions.
Honoring Dedication: Celebrating Long-Standing Members
The annual general meeting also provided an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the unwavering loyalty of long-standing members. Individuals were honored for their commitment to the JCH, ranging from a decade to an impressive six decades of membership.
Stefan Heinrich, Jörg Krüger, Björn Roy Degenhardt, Annika Zimmermann, and Rafail Becker were recognized for 10 years of membership. Michel Neumann celebrated 15 years, while Marco heise and Thomas Plate marked 20 years. Maik Loosen was honored for 25 years, Susanne Loi for 30 years, and Alfred Baßler, Diana Neuhaus, and Walburga Trompeter for an incredible 40 years of dedication.
A particularly special recognition was given to Klaus Buchholz, a founding member of the Judo Club halver, for his remarkable 60 years of service. Buchholz humorously remarked, Actually, I have known everyone here at the meeting since they came to youth training as children.
