That’s the haunting back-and-forth between Joel Edgerton‘s Robert Grainier and Felicity Jones‘ Gladys Grainier, in the final trailer for Train Dreamsreleased Thursday, ahead of the film’s Nov. 21 drop on the streamer.
The Academy Award-aspiring film premiered to critical acclaim at Sundance and currently holds a 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 87 score on Metacritic. Bentley cowrote the screenplay with Greg Kwedarmarking their first collaboration since the Oscar-nominated Sing Sing. The film has been steadily rising in Gold Derby’s prediction charts, particularly in the Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography races, among others.
WHAT’S THE PLOT?

The film follows Robert Grainier (Edgerton), a logger and railroad worker navigating life in the forests of the Pacific Northwest during early 20th-century America. It is adapted from Denis Johnson’s Pulitzer Prize finalist novella of the same name.
Bentley has previously described the film as, “a really special story and it feels very unique in that it is just about this one person’s life. This very simple life. Robert Grainier doesn’t do anything that really alters the course of history — he doesn’t fight in some great battle or create some invention that changes people’s lives, and yet he lives a very deep and rich life.”
WHO’S IN THE CAST?
Besides Edgerton, the film boasts an acclaimed cast that includes Academy Award nominees Felicity Jones, Kerry Condonand William H. Macyas well as Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehland Paul Schneider and is narrated by Will Patton.
WHO ELSE IS BEHIND THE FILM
The score is composed by Oscar nominee and multi-Grammy winner Bryce Dessner (The Two Popes, The Revenant). A new original song titled “Train Dreams” was recorded by Nick Cavewho cowrote and coproduced the track with Dessner. Luis Almau is listed as an additional producer on the song. The song plays over the film’s end title credits and will be featured on the Train Dreams soundtrack, which is set for a Nov. 7 digital release, to be followed by the vinyl release on Nov. 14.
The film is produced by Marissa McMahon, Teddy Schwarzman, William Janowitz, Ashley Schlaiferand Michael Heimler.
WHEN IS THE RELEASE DATE?
The film will make its international premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, open in select theaters on Nov. 7 and debut on Netflix on Nov. 21.
