DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Four days after a devastating fire at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Dickson City, Jefferson Health provided its first update on recovery and patient care efforts.
According to Jefferson Health officials, the hospital remains temporarily closed as safety assessments and restoration work continue. Details about the fire itself were previously reported by FOX56 news, which covered the emergency response and evacuation at the scene.
Structural engineers have since determined the main hospital building is structurally sound, with significant damage limited to the Medical Office Building. Restoration crews are working around the clock alongside hospital leadership and regulatory agencies. Jefferson Health says restoring emergency services remains its top priority due to the community’s reliance on the facility.
Jefferson Health CEO Dr. Joseph G. Cacchione thanked first responders, hospital staff, and the community for their support, crediting swift action with protecting patients, visitors, and employees during the incident.
With emergency services offline for now, Jefferson teams are actively reaching out to hundreds of patients who had upcoming appointments. Patients are being redirected to alternate locations to ensure continuity of care. Beginning Tuesday, February 10, several LVPG Orthopedics and Sports Medicine offices across Lackawanna County and surrounding areas will reopen to accommodate patients.
Patients can contact 570-307-1767 for scheduling assistance at the following locations:
- LVPG Orthopedics & Sports Medicine-Steamtown: 300 Lackawanna Avenue, Suite 200, Scranton, PA 18503
- LVPG Orthopedics & Sports Medicine-Carbondale: 267 Brooklyn Street, Carbondale, PA 18407
- LVPG Orthopedics & Sports Medicine-Pittston: 1120 Oak Street, Pittston, PA 18640
- LVPG Orthopedics & Sports Medicine-Morgan Hwy: 5 Morgan Highway, Scranton, PA 18508
Jefferson Health has also launched an online FAQ to help guide patients through rescheduling and next steps as recovery efforts continue.
Support services have been made available for nearly 500 employees affected by the closure. Jefferson Health says staff members are receiving salary continuation, and well-being resources are in place, especially for those who assisted with evacuations during the fire.
