Having increased by 25% thanks to the start of the spring holidays, the anime “Doraemon: Nobita and the Castle of the Underwater Devil” returned to the top of the Japanese chart. The forty-fifth installment of the local children’s film series added $2.8 million to its haul in its fourth weekend. In total, this gives 2.5 billion yen or $16.04 million in twenty-four days.

A hefty 408.2 million yen, or $2.58, at the start of the “End of the World Project,” which is a respectable amount in today’s times. The debut box office of the science fiction blockbuster was 35% less than that of “The Martian” ten years ago.

Again, due to the holidays, the “Jumpers” fees increased by 4%. The cartoon earned $2.4 million in its second weekend and $6.04 million in ten days. The third Hollywood release in the top four was the second part of “Wicked.” The musical fantasy took in $1.51 million with a 14 percent decline in its third weekend and has $9.4 million after seventeen days.

Not the most severe by local standards, 36 percent damage dropped the action adventure “Golden Deity: Assault on Abashiri Prison” from first place to fifth place. The second feature film based on the popular manga earned $1.47 million in its second weekend and $5.03 million in ten days.

The romantic drama “The Song That Lasts After You” earned $1.12 million in 325 theaters. It is based on the novel of the same name published in December 2020 by the Japanese writer Misaki Ichijo. The film centers on the story of two musicians whose relationship changes over the years as their life paths begin to diverge. Haruto Mizushima, who has a secret hobby of composing poetry, meets Ayane Torisaka. The girl suffers from dyslexia and can hardly read and write, but has the rare gift of singing and composing music.

The anime “Assassination Classroom: Everyone’s Time” collected $1.05 million from 164 theaters. This compilation is dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the release of the animated series and contains fragments cut from it for timing reasons. The basis for the series was the manga in the fantasy comedy genre “Assassination Classroom,” which was published from 2012 to 2016. It was also made into two feature films, released in 2015 and 2016.

The seventh weekend of screenings brought in $782 thousand with a 16% loss for the touching drama “A Time to Say Goodbye.” The film, which became a word-of-mouth hit, accumulated 4.08 billion yen or $26.3 million. After expanding distribution and satisfying basic demand, revenues from the anime “Space Princess Kaguya” decreased by 59% ($738 thousand in the fifth weekend, a total of $8.66 million). The top ten is occupied by the police drama “Training Ground: Requiem” (-12%, $714 thousand in the fifth weekend, a total of $14.98 million).
