Martha Jane Mulhollem Longino, born February 12, 1926 in St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026. A Sarasota resident for much of her life, she is survived by her children Sarah Jane Longino, John Thomas “Jack” Longino (Nalini), and Rebecca Elizabeth Longino St. Pierre (Frank). In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren August Longino, Rikki Longino, William St. Pierre, and Forrest St. Pierre, and great-granddaughters Sierra and Brooke Longino. Also, her great-nieces Jennifer Hartley-Tonelli, Julia Barrios, Sarah Bush, and their families survive her. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, Berryman Thomas Longino, Jr. Jane grew up in St. Petersburg and then attended Salem College, where she graduated with a BA in Music in 1947. After graduation she taught music at Marion College in Virginia and later moved back to St. Petersburg to help her widowed mother and to teach music at Mirror Lake Jr. High. She met and married B. T. “Bus” or “Buster,” and the two settled in Sarasota, where they raised a family and lived the rest of their lives. Bus and his sisters had inherited property in eastern Sarasota County, which they developed into a cattle ranch. “City girl” Jane became a country girl and was an integral part of the extended family business. Both Jane and Bus were early members of Pine Shores Presbyterian Church and church fellowship was central to their lives. For many years Jane was the Choir Director at Pine Shores, guiding young and old in a vibrant music program. Jane was a founding member of the Sarasota Junior Welfare League (later to become the Junior League of Sarasota) and also chaired the Historical Society of Sarasota County for a number of years. Jane and Bus lived in Sarasota while raising their children and then moved out to the ranch for their later years, managing ranch business while also remaining very engaged in Sarasota civic life. Jane lived a long and fulfilling life, being a child during the Great Depression, witnessing a World War, raising children during the tumult of the 1960s, and even mastering email and computer accounting programs. Through 100 years of dramatic change, she kept a positive outlook, a lively personality, and a strong ethos of caring, dedication, and devotion to family, church, and community. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 6th at Pine Shores Presbyterian Church. 6116 Crestwood Ave., Sarasota FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Pine Shores Presbyterian Church.
